Muscle Shoals or “The Shoals” is the largest city located in Colbert County, Alabama. It’s been named the fastest growing city in northwest Alabama. The population recorded in 2019 was 14,575. In the last decade, Muscle Shoals has experienced a record breaking amount of both residential and commercial growth. The city offers the best in community activities, school systems and sporting facilities. Muscle Shoals school system continues to rank in the top 10 for the state, with an above average for testing.

Cypress Lakes golf and tennis facility has a challenging 18-hole course and six hydro court surfaces for both beginners and experienced players. They also have a fully-stocked pro shop where you can pick up apparel, balls or any other equipment you need. If you’re looking for a bite to eat, check out their 19th hole lounge, open Tuesday through Sunday.
Muscle Shoals Parks and Recreation have multiple facilities for you or your child to get involved with outdoor activities or sports.
There are several facilities within Gattman Park, including 2 gyms, party and meeting rooms, a kitchen, a walking track and administrative offices. All of these spaces are available to rent for events. Gattman Park also has 2 large pavilions and 1 small pavilion with copious seating. These are also available to rent for family reunions, birthday parties or other events. At Gattman park you will also find a splash pad, playground, batting cages, t-ball and baseball fields where the youth play.
All tournament games are played at the Sportsplex in Muscle Shoals. The park consists of four different fields, a playground and several pavilions. Fall soccer and flag football games are also played here. Batting cages are available for use for a small fee. There are also several other sporting facilities such as Steenson Hollow Park, Webster Park and the Airport Complex.
Tennessee Valley Authority Reservation
At the Muscle Shoals Reservation, there are plenty of outdoor activities for the entire family, including ample fishing opportunities, boat launch ramps, playgrounds, pavilions and picnic areas. There are 17 different trails on the reservation for hiking, off-road vehicles, biking or running. Take a brisk walk or jog on one of the trails, or reel in a big fish! You’re sure to find something here you’ll enjoy.
Fame Recording Studios
For the music lovers living in or visiting Muscle Shoals, Fame Recording Studios is a must see. In case you haven’t heard it before, Muscle Shoals was the birthplace of most American soul music. Song artists such as Etta James, Demi Lovato, George Strait, The Dixie Chicks, Kenny Chesney and so many more have recorded music right in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
There are also several events held each year in Muscle Shoals and surrounding cities. Huff ‘n’ Puff on the Bluff is an annual 5K and 15K race hosted by The Junior League of the Shoals and Tennessee Rivers Athletic Club. The Muscle Shoals Street Rod Festival is also held every year in Spring Park. This is one of the largest antique car shows in the state of Alabama. You can see over 300 classic rides and vintage rods.
